The 5th Scottsdale Classic in Review

The 2007 Scottsdale Classic saw over 7,700 entries, making it the largest yet in it 5 year history. Close to 2,500 AQHA points were earned by competitors that came from 30 states, and from Canada. The expansive facilities at WestWorld easily accommodated the increased numbers, so even though there was more action in the rings, there was still plenty of practice, warm up, or just stretch out under the inviting blue skies.

"We had a very successful first year hosting the 2007 NRHA Southwestern Affiliate Finals," commented Barbara Dietz, the Event Producer. The Classic has, from it inception, been popular with the reiners. This year with the added attraction of the finals, even more reiners attended, resulting in some of the AQHA reining classes doubled this year.

Reining classes were not the only ones to see big increases. NSBA 3 year old Western Pleasure futurity more than doubled this year.

Besides loads of points, trophies and prizes, over $193,000 in cash awards was paid out. The Pro Am Trail Extravaganza was back with a challenging labyrinth of poles and obstacles Twenty two teams competed for a total of $14,000 in prize money.

As the sun set on the 2007 Scottsdale Classic, and the last trailers were pulling out, the hard working staff and founders were already talking about "next year". So we hope to see you there!
